Although blepharoplasty can be performed as a stand-along procedure, it is commonly part of a comprehensive surgical and non-surgical rejuvenation program. Such a treatment is always tailored to the specific needs and desires of the patient and may include skin rejuvenation, browlift, face and neck lift, cheek and midface enhancement, profile enhancement including nose and chin improvements. As stressed elsewhere, we want to enhance the face in general and therefore avoid a narrow view only focusing on the lids.

Skin Rejuvenation

Skin resurfacing procedures include facial peels and laser techniques. These procedures help to address the hallmarks of aging skin such as brown spots, pigment changes, fine lines and some wrinkles. These skin treatments can be performed at the same time as your eyelid lift, before the procedure or afterwards. A word of caution: Almost every day, a new laser or wonder machine is promoted as the new miracle skin cure. Be cautious with these “ground-breaking” discoveries. Sometimes, it only takes a few months for the “new thing” to fall out of favor.
Other skin treatments include the use of injectable dermal fillers. These materials are effective adjuncts for improvement of deep facial lines and grooves. Most commonly, the nasolabial, Marionette and laugh lines are treated. A gentle lip enhancement, both for bothersome “smoker” lines and to add some volume, can add to the overall improvement.

Botox is most commonly used to eradicate forehead creases, soften glabellar frown lines between the eye brows, and to diminish the crow’s feet around the eyes. Crow’s feet usually do not improve much with eyelid surgery.
